Верхний порожек электрогитары

Сегодня пойдет речь об одной маленькой, но довольно важной детали в конструкции электрогитары. В этой статье вы узнаете, каким бывает верхний порожек и из каких материалов его изготавливают. Также мы рассмотрим локовые порожки и несколько вариантов нестандартных типов.

Для чего нужен верхний порожек?

Как ни странно, но верхний порожек является одной из важнейших точек расположенных на гитаре, потому что именно здесь резонируют струны и именно с этой точки начинается звук. Еще эта точка отвечает за настройку инструмента.

Вот просто подумайте логически, а что если порожек будет неправильно пропилен или же не точно установлен? Конечно же, гитара уже не будет нормально звучать, скорее всего звенеть начнет, а высота струн будет слишком велика, что отразится на комфорте игры.

Основная задача верхнего порожка заключается в правильном расположении высоты струн над грифом гитары, а также в точном расстоянии между ними. Порожек устанавливают и пропиливают в соответствии с высотой ладов, шириной грифа, а также радиусом накладки. Из этого следует, что не существует универсального порожка для абсолютно всех гитар.

Для того, чтобы правильно установить и пропилить новый порожек, в первую очередь необходимо выполнить полную отстройку инструмента, которая также включает в себя выравнивание (шлифовку) ладов. Сперва порожек точно выставляется, после чего делается грубый пропил и уже потом производится точная подгонка до необходимой высоты вместе со струнами.

Если вы все же решитесь заменить на своей электрогитаре верхний порожек, то стоит учитывать, что сегодня существует достаточно много разных материалов, из которых его изготавливают. Каждый их них соответственно имеет свои определенные тональные характеристики.

Материалы для верхнего порожка

Bone Nut (Кость)

• Твердый и плотный винтажный материал. Такой порожек должен быть аккуратно пропилен для того, чтобы избежать застревание струн в пазах.
• Звук чистый, яркий и детализированный.
• При обработке издает довольно неприятный запах.

Graphite Nut (Графит)

• Материал самосмазывающийся, который идеально подходит для грифов и тремоло, где струны не проходят ровно через верхний порожек.
• Ровное и теплое звучание.
• Доступен в заготовках, легко пропиливается.

Nickel Nut (Никель)

• Такой порожек изготовлен из такого же материала, что и лады на грифе. Он совпадает с их внешним видом и звуком.
• Звук очень яркий с превосходным сустейном и арктикуляцией.
• Отлично полируется, но трудный в обработке и при шлифовке нагревается.

Brass Nut (Латунь)

• Этот материал достаточно твердый, но при этом хорошо полируется и с позолоченной фурнитурой выглядит отлично.
• Яркий звук и превосходный сустейн, особенно на слайд и бас-гитарах.
• Трудная обработка, при которой материал сильно нагревается, а пыль может затруднить пропиливание.

Tusq Nut (Таск)

• Искусственный материал, который внешне похож на кость.
• Ровное и теплое звучание.
• Доступен в заготовках и легок в обработке.

Corian Nut (Кориан)

• Синтетический твердый материал, требующий тонкой доводки.
• Звук ровный, чистый и сбалансированный.
• Доступен в очень больших заготовках, режется довольно медленно, но равномерно.

Выбор верхнего порожка

Калибр и тип струн может определять использование какого-либо из вышеперечисленных материалов. Поэтому отнеситесь с умом при выборе верхнего порожка, потому что именно с него начинается звук гитары, а это уж точно немаловажно.

На фабрике порожек может быть не всегда правильно пропилен, поэтому цена гитары, чаще всего, определяет общее время потраченное на доводку и отстройку инструмента. В отличие от дорогих гитар, на дешевых не уделяют особого внимания деталям. При наличии ровных рук можно, конечно же, и из дешевой палки сделать лялю, но это уже тема для отдельной статьи.

Итак, существуют три стандартных размера порожков, измеряемые по ширине, а именно:

Поэтому, чтобы определить, какой именно порожек вам подходит, для этого достаточно знать параметры радиуса накладки и учитывать форму грифа.

Локовые порожки

Поговорим теперь о так называемых локовых (запирающихся) порожках. В чем их суть? Устроены эти порожки таким образом, чтобы фиксировать струны в верхней точке грифа и тем самым позволяя использовать вам различные тремоло системы даже для самых глубоких покачиваниях рычага, при этом постоянно удерживая строй гитары.

Многие музыканты считают, что это чуть ли не единственный способ для того, чтобы гитара не теряла свой строй. И они правы в своих убеждениях, т.к. локовый порожек всегда справляется с этой задачей на ура. Но вот по сравнению со стандартным порожком, этот будет все же привносить в звук некоторое отличие. Какое?

Т.к. локовые порожки в основном делают из металла, при их использовании звук становится тоньше, а еще такой порожек не дает струнам достаточно долго резонировать в отличие от обычного. Для тех, кто хочет довольно активно пользоваться своей тремоло системой, локовый порожек будет идеальным решением.

Бывалые гитаристы скажут, что мол, мне нужен хороший тон и резонанс, но черт возьми, я также хочу наслаждаться использованием Floyd Rose на своем весле без необходимости каждый раз подстраивать его после нескольких движений рычагом! В связи с этим за последние 15 лет были специально разработаны новые продукты, стоящие где-то посередине между этими двумя крайностями.

Необычные порожки

Такие порожки представляют собой компромиссное решение между традиционным и локовым верхними порожками. Характеризуются они как хорошим звучанием так и своей функциональностью. Приведу пару примеров подобных продуктов.

Earvana Compensated Nut

С помощью LSR Roller Nut можно даже легко исполнить партии Ван Халена и при этом не переживать за строй, который будет также хорошо держаться, как с использованием обычного локового порожка.

I must admit that I was a skeptic about your compensated nut (before I ordered several!). After installing one on my personal guitar, I must say that the claim that this product is the biggest thing to come along since the tuno-matic is totally true. Dear Earvana,
I had been reading the great revues of the Earvana Nut in various guitar magazines for some time and found their booth at the NAMM show. I must say I was blown away by how much it improved the inherent problem we guitarists face with intonation. Being in tune is a battle we as guitar players face. It’s been 2 years since I first saw the write-up for the compensated nut in Guitar Player Magazine. I sent in my money, figuring even a small improvement on the intonation of my stunningly beautiful Guild X170 would be worth it. Whoa! At the first big band rehearsal after installation, four horn players came to me and told me I sounded especially good that night. Of course I didn’t tell them, but my ears also heard the difference. I was able to play up and down the strings in all positions instead of across the fretboard. I also felt that many of the chords sounded sweeter. Now it’s on everything I own, except my metal strat with the Floyd Rose. (I am waiting for that one to be released). From my trusty L7C to my X700 Stuart, it’s as important as any component I use. I WILL NOT OWN A GUITAR WITHOUT IT EVER AGAIN. All I’ve ever wanted was to play in tune, and this has gotten me there. Thank you!

P.S. Why haven’t the big boys started using this? I’ve never had anything so cheap that made such a difference on ALL my guitars. I would think that the first guy in gets bragging rights!

I just got done revamping my guitar with your system, and all graph-tech saddles/string trees, WOW. Just too cool, I have to admit I geri-rigged a knock off from the pics on your site to make sure it was worthwhile, but with the adjustable nut, I have near perfect intonation, aside from my not perfect technique. I wish I had a name so I could get to more people, but I’ll tell everyone I know (players). I can’t believe that the Buzz Feiten system can be that much better, and I don’t have the time for offsets (no strobe tuner).

First I feel compelled to say that the earvana nut has changed my guitar. I was seriously considering switching to a fretless instrument because of my gradual obsession with intonation. I’m one of those people who will be playing a million miles an hour and go «oh s—, my D string is not in tune with my high E for this run», and then adjust my tuning depending on where I am playing on the neck. When I record, I carefully retune the high registers relative to the underlying rhythm guitars. I won’t be doing that ever again!

I generally tune strings in a cris-cross pattern testing octaves and fifths up to seventh position. Over the last few years, I’ve been plagued by the following:

Tune the G string so that the fourth fret (B) rings true to the low E. Now fret the G on the E string and try hitting the open G string. OUCH! Never mind all the tuning systems that worry about the inaccuracy of thirds on fretted instruments. We guitarists can’t even get the consistent octaves and fifths in a four fret range!

The Earvana retrofit solved this problem for the first time. I demonstrated this to my friends at Guitar Center, and they were floored. For less money than a pickup, they can actually have their guitars in tune! I gave 5 salesmen your URL. I myself have 18 guitars, and I want to, as money allows, fit every one with an earvana nut.
